Sean K Bay Australian Microbial Ecology 2019

Sean K Bay

I am a recent PhD graduate from the Greeninglab at Monash University where I have Investigated the structural and functional basis of soil microbial biodiversity and primary production. I have a particular interest in understanding how soil bacteria utilise atmospheric trace gases such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide and methane to enhance their survival in extreme ecosystems. To answer these questions, I integrate across ecological soil surveying, molecular, biochemical and computational methodologies. I joined the Chown lab at Monash University in January 2021 as part of the international research endeavour ‘Securing Antarctica’s Environmental Future (SAEF)’. In this role I aim to work on gaining a systematic understanding of microbial biogeography and their carbon and energy acquisition strategies in Antarctica.
