Chathurika Daulagala

My research interests lie in the fields of microbiology and plant-microbe interactions. I received my Bachelors of honors specializing the field of Botany from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Currently, I'm completing the third year of my PhD at western Sydney University- Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment. My research project is based on the ecological interactions of nitrogen fixing rhizobium in field pea symbiosis. I'm interested in looking at the effects of genetic similarity of rhizobium on the inter-strain interactions such as competition and corporation. We are keen on evaluating the effectiveness of this symbiosis under environmental constraints such as drought. Overall, my project aims to address the effects of inter-strain rhizobial interactions on the nitrogen benefits of legume host while improving the skills of tools in micro and molecular biology for the identification of rhizobial strains and both in-vitro and glass house trials for evaluating the plant growth parameters.
