Jed Calvert
Jed is studying fungal diversity within plants―the communities of endophytic fungi that exist inside above-ground rainforest plant tissue―in order to understand how plant-microbe interactions contribute to plant health under seasonal water stress. He is interested in seeing a transition to future agricultural systems that harness plant-microbe interactions in order to optimise crop yields and decrease energy-intensive inputs, and in learning more about the fascinating relationships that have formed between microbes and plants over evolutionary time.
